Housing
Finding a home in Israel is one of the most important elements affecting a person or family’s immediate and longer term absorption in Israel.

There are many factors involved in deciding on where to settle. It is normal for Anglo Olim to initially locate themselves in familiar  areas or which have a fair community of English speakers. In practical terms the majority of English speaking Olim settle in either Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Ra’anana, Netanya or Beit Shemesh. Although many of them remain within these communities, a certain proportion, particularly those who have made Aliyah alone, will move on as family status and other criteria change.

Although the ultimate decision will involve much of research on the part of the Olim themselves, this section contains a general guide to the types of housing available in Israel, so that you have an idea of what to expect as you start your search.

Benefits are available to help Olim rent, and subsequently purchase, a home in Israel. This section deals with those benefits in general terms only as they are calculated on an individual basis for each person or family. UJIA ISRAEL’s Aliyah Counsellors will be pleased to discuss the benefits available in more detail, or to direct Olim to other appropriate sources of information when necessary.

Please note that the privileges that Olim have to a Government mortgage have recently changed, so that Olim who made Aliyah after September 1st 1989, now receive assistance as Olim for 10 years from their date of Aliyah.
